In a meeting that stretched well past midnight, the WPFW Local Station Board voted at their Jan. 30 meeting to begin the process to fire station general manager John Hughes. The vote was the culmination of two months of community protest and organizing after Hughes abruptly changed the station grid without consultation with staff or programmers. More details will be posted under BREAKING NEWS.
A meeting will be held SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 2, 2013, 10 A.M. – 12 Noon, TAKOMA STATION TAVERN 6914 FOURTH ST, NW, DC (l block from Red Line Takoma Park Metro Station). There will be a two-month update on the WPFW crisis.
I heard that the earlier scheduling grid had been restored. That seems to be a very qualified statement. I don’t understand why playing “Democracy Now” twice a day, once in the 5 pm drive time slot, is necessary. All respect to Askia Muhammad, but this two hours of light interviews and promos for various cultural events around town, mixed with the news from Al Jizirah, and a few random pieces of music, is no match for the intelligent DJ programming that used to be on in the morning. I hope the efforts to restore the earlier grid continue.
It’s not over until John Hughs is not allowed into the WPFW studios & the MUSIC is restored. Particularly in the AM.
thank you LSB for all the hard work!
So gratifying to see that the community’s hard work and committment worked.
